How to Group Taxes and Sales by Country

Open Payout simplifies your accounting by grouping line items of the same type together when it generates a payout for your shop.

This means that you can quickly account for the total Sales, Fees, Taxes and other transactions that make up each of your payouts. And if you need fine grained data, Open Payout attaches an Excel spreadsheet to every payout it creates in Xero or QuickBooks, with all the individual line items that were used in that payout's calculation.

But if you're submitting tax or VAT returns to more than one country or jurisdiction then you need to be able to break out the sales and tax data for those countries.

You can tell Open Payout to separate out a specific country's line item totals, by selecting the country in the 'Group By Country and Sku' dialog on the Open Payout dashboard:

You can also group by State, SKU, City or Description

You can further break down your payouts by State. For example if you need to submit tax returns to California, you can first group by the United States and then California. Open Payout will then create seperate line items for your shop's sales to your customers in California

You can break out the sales for a specific product by selecting the product's SKU from the group by dialog.

You can also break down sales by specific cities. For example to track how a marketing campaign in London affects your sales there.

Finally, Open Payout will also collect any descriptive data it can for your line items, such as the material a product is made from, a products color, or the coupon code used for a discount. You can group your sales by any of those descriptions by selecting them from Split By Description dialog.

You are in control. By selecting different group by options you can quickly customize your payouts to the level of detail you need.
